I’ve known Peter Miles for about 25 years. He was at the Royal College and asked me to photograph something for him. After that we became very good friends. He taught me to play tennis, and I taught him how to drink. I remember taking him to my favorite bar, the Tiroler Hut, and — when we left — witnessing him collapse onto the pavement. Peter was very much the driving force behind the Go-Sees project; it would never have existed without him. That was the first of over 20 books we made together. He questions me and gives me ideas to chew on. The back-and-forth puts me on the right track. He also makes beautiful designs. I like being with him at Steidl, where we print our books, eat, drink and relax in the sauna. And I like the hours we spend talking about football. We also work on Marc Jacobs and Céline together. From Negronis to Martinis, Arsenal to Bayern, England vs. Germany — it’s good to have a friend.
