Once David Bowie’s “official photographer,” English-born Mick Rock was one of the photographers who turned the stars of the ’70s — Queen, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, Talking Heads, you name it — into familiar faces, but always with an original twist. Based in New York for years, Rock is no paparazzi; he is one of the most talented music and art portraitists around, with the ability to capture the essence of a subject’s character in a New York minute.
