BEST of the SEASON

photography by TERRY RICHARDSON
style by CAROLINE GAIMARI
casting by ALANNA GABIN

For Purple’s 20th anniversary, we decided to present this season’s collections by shooting a number of emerging, mostly unknown models at the dawn of their careers. All of the girls are the same age as our magazine, which seems fitting. After all, the fashion industry would not be the same without the fragile dreams of girls like these — without their freshness, energy, confidence, humor, and lack of pretense. Most of these models — attracted to the bright lights of the big city — found themselves in front of Terry Richardson’s camera for the first time. Some of them will hopefully make it big one day, some will find something else to do, and some will get lost in the shuffle. In an era when the cultural importance of high fashion can be taken too seriously, we wanted to celebrate the designers we love in a natural and spontaneous way, and have Terry shoot like he did in the ’90s: a pretty girl in front of a pocket camera.
