Ryan McGinley always had his camera with him, day and night, taking pictures of his friends Dash, Dan, Donald, Dakota and many others who were part of the underground scene emerging in downtown New York in the dark days right after 9/11. These are maybe the last free spirits, body and soul, to come out of the old East Village and Canal Street.
