dash snow (part 15)

dash snow

American artist Dash Snow was a true rebel. He started out as a graffiti artist and deliberately lived as an outsider. In the early 2000s, he was the center of a new generation of artists in New York and became a collaborator of Purple, interviewing and shooting artists he admired. Except in our pages, he refused to model because his own image was entirely part of his art — based on documenting his daily life and friends like Dan Colen, Ryan McGinley, Terence Koh, Agathe Snow, and his partner Jade Berreau. A close friend and a constant inspiration to us, he lived by his own rules, trying to forge a pure path to art with no compromises. Opposed to all forms of authority and a harsh critic of American politics and media, he used art as a weapon against fear and control. He lived fast and died too young, at 27, in 2009.
