[March 25 2013] : art
This art film is taken from Ian Whittlesea’s new exhibition ‘Becoming Invisible’ which opened at Marlborough Contemporary on the 22 March 2013, and presents paintings, a manual and a video performance that will serve as instruments for any person to use to become invisible. The film shown here is one in a series of films of the gallery staff that Whittlesea created, which include everyone from director to intern as they perform the exercises detailed in the manual, having the perverse effect of making visible that which is normally hidden (the staff and support structures of the gallery). The show draws on the literature of esoteric yoga, Rosicrucianism, Theosophy and the alchemical writings of Sir Isaac Newton to present a simple and practical guide to disappearing.
