Robin Rhode’s fantastic new exhibition at Lehmann Maupin revisits the coloring books of childhood to examine loss, whimsy and the value of art. Much of Rhode’s practice relies on temporary materials such as chalk and charcoal reminiscent of the American artist Gary Simmons’ erasure series. Along with the ephemeral sensation of the exhibit, the artist’s manipulation of scale enhances the impression of childlike wonder. Take Your Mind Off The Street is on view through February 23rd 2013 at Lehmann Maupin, 540 West 26th Street and 201 Chrystie Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
