Alex Prager’s complex photographs in his new exhibition at Lehmann Maupin position actors on stage sets to suggest a familiar reality through articifical situations. Elsewhere in the gallery, Prager’s three channel film installation contrasts the unmoving crowds with intimate narrative. The viewer shifts from unacknowledged bystander to participant within the space of the exhibition. Face in the Crowd is on view through February 22nd 2014 at Lehmann Maupin, 540 West 26th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
