[October 23 2013]
The work of Ashley Bickerton exploits dualing emotions of attraction and repulsion. For his latest exhibition with Lehmann Maupin, Bickerton upends formal portraits and landscapes. Starting with this traditional context, the artist merges hyper-realism, craft and cross cultural references. Bickerton’s deliberate and chaotic combinations result in new extremes that rebel against convention. Mitochondrial Eve/Viral Mother is on view through October 26th 2013 at Lehmann Maupin, 201 Chrystie Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
