[January 4 2013]
The exhibition of Mickalene Thomas at Lehmann Maupin examines interior and exterior spaces through the artist’s embellished canvases. Thomas’ work relies on heavy references to modern and contemporary art genres and sources. The dazzling colors and textures combined with deconstructed perspectives shift Thomas’ work into the realm of performative painting. How to Organize a Room Around a Striking Piece of Art is on view through January 5th 2013 at Lehmann Maupin, 201 Chrystie Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
