The Neue Nationalgalerie’s latest exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Andy Warhol, exploring his lifelong quest to capture an ideal beauty, through over 300 works. This collection reveals a consistent theme in Warhol’s career from the 1940s to the 1980s, showcasing his deep personal narrative alongside his commercial successes. By recontextualizing famous portraits and presenting intimate sketches and films, the exhibition uncovers the profound, often unspoken motivations behind Warhol’s iconic imagery, highlighting an expansive and inclusive insight into a Warhol, that during his lifetime never had a real “coming-out”.
