The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology Trailer by Sophie Fiennes
The sequel to the 2006 documentary The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema sees the reunion of Slovene philosopher Slavoj Zizek with filmmaker Sophie Fiennes. Liek before they use their inventive interpretation of moving pictures to examine there subject, 2013 sees them examine ideology – the collective fantasies that shape our beliefs and practices. Zizek delves into how political and commercial regimes regard us as ‘subjects of pleasure’, controlling us by offering us enjoyment. Through psychoanalysis Zizek explores “the mechanisms that shape what we believe and how we behave” and illustrates his fascinating monologue through a variety of movies such as Brazil, M*A*S*H, The Sound of Music, and Brief Encounter.
