Kristin Scott Thomas stars in this pseudo advertisement captured in the splendor of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Amidst Hittorffs fountains of youth and The Obelisk of Luxor, the viewer witnesses an almost familiar scene wherein the subject’s body language implies that she is selling something which can be applied to her complexion. All is music and light, the golden sun illuminating particles flying through the charged atmosphere heavy with symbolism and metaphors. A female voice sings “It’s alarming how charming I feel… that… I can hardly believe I’m real.” The repeated gestures reminiscent of a programmed marionette point to a deeper note where all is not one. Scott Thomas in the role of the prepossessing beauty and the face of this mercurial plasma swirls and spirals the viewer into an abstruse conclusion as her dulcet voiceover proclaims “I love my life so much, I never want it to end.” The name of the perfume is never revealed. The mystery pervades. Forever is a very long time.
