Eyes Wide Wider by Kalika Farmer
This video directed by Kalika Farmer features the new single Eyes Wide Wider by New York City-based band Tempers. Filmed in the natural beauty of the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, Eyes Wide Wider is a stunning, ethereal tableau. Shot on Hi-8, an analog precursor to modern digital videography, it conveys a soft, dreamlike image. According to Farmer, “A major inspiration for me was the L’Estasi di Santa Teresa by Bernini, an iconic sculpture that relates the idea of life as beauty and yet also as suffering- spiritual suffering, the separation from the Beloved, abandonment, longing, and surrender.” The imagery also draws heavily on Mimi’s Dance, a scene from Roman Polanski’s film Bitter Moon.
