Earlier this year the LA based concept store Just One Eye proposed to New York-based artist Nate Lowman to make a custom version of the iconic Converse Chuck Taylor shoe. Lowman flew to Just One Eye in Los Angeles, where, lead by a shoe cobbler, he carefully deconstructed two of his canvases (depicting a copy of Willem de Kooning’s 1954 portrait of Marilyn Monroe) to create 21 pairs of limited edition shoes. Just One Eye enlisted Joe Pytka, legendary director, cinematographer, and filmmaker, to embark on a journey to express the shoes in a short film entitled “Eye.”
