Mixed Message Media curated by Neville Wakefield at Gladstone Gallery explores the potential of materials and objects. Playing with context and form, everyday mattresses become abstract and weighty sculptures. While the work of some artists in the show seems site specific to the gallery environment other work such as a bicycle leaning on the wall manipulate the viewer experience. Ultimately, Wakefield supports the exhibition’s title as the viewer understands the shift in the perception of objects based on circumstances. On view through August 2nd 2013 at Gladstone Gallery, 515 West 24th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
