Casey Kaplan presents artist Giorgio Griffa’s first New York solo exhibition in over forty years. Griffa gives materials and the artist’s hand equal weight in the process of painting. The canvas and linen works hanging fom the walls include lines, patterns and shapes and serve as exercises in restraint versus action. The small retrospective allows visitors to walk through the progression of Griffa’s different bodies of work ranging from ordered lines to numerical values. Fragments 1968 – 2012 is on view through December 22nd 2012 at Casey Kaplan, 525 West 21st Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
