Artist Tony Smith’s monumental steel sculpture Source takes over Matthew Marks Gallery’s 22nd Street space. Dating from 1967, Smith’s work blurs architecture, sculpture and painting references into a powerful visual statement. The shiny black finish, common in many Smith works, and minimalist forms reveal the artist’s significant impact on later generations of artists. Source is on view through October 27th 2012 at Matthew Marks Gallery, 522 West 22nd Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
