The first major solo gallery exhibition in eight years of the artist Kiki Smith previewed last night at the Pace Gallery on 22nd St. The space is filled with thirty hand painted stained glass panels depicting the life cycle of a woman and is a project Smith worked on for the past five years. The women depicted are based on her friends but meant to represent anyone on the journey of life. Some of the imagery focuses on emotion and the physical while other panels depict the sacred rituals of life. It is a pilgrimage played by women. The glass images are designed to be viewed from both sides and the layout of the thirty panels is designed especially for the 22nd Street space. Text and photo Juliana Balestin
