“Surréalisme” an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou opened on the 4th of September.
The exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the surrealist mouvement that began in 1924 with the release of André Breton’s seminal Manifesto. The exhibit is structured as a spiral or labyrinth, centered around a « drum » displaying the original Manifesto manuscript, on loan from the National Library of France, with an immersive audiovisual projection that explores its significance. Divided into 13 chapters, it showcases 300 pieces from paintings, drawings, films, photographs and literary documents to highlights key literary influences and mythologies that shaped Surrealism’s imagination. It presents major works from major international collections by Salvador Dali, René Magritte, Giorgio de Chirico, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Leonora Carrington, Ithell Colquhoun and Dora Maar, amongst others.
