Gunther Uecker’s recently closed exhibition at New York’s Haunch of Venison uses abstraction and provocative materials to explore themes of violence and religion. The standout nailed works on canvas support Uecker’s narrative with their subtle drama and suggestion of the forbidden. Uecker’s attention to installation and creative use of the space add to the theatrical presenation. This exhibition is now closed. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
