The new exhibition of Francis Alys at David Zwirner addresses political conflict and social strife through a narrative which blends fiction and non fiction. Alys uses children playing a game in the streets of Kabul as the starting point to challenge perceptons of truth in Western media. Elsewhere in the gallery, small scale paintings of television test patterns leave the artist’s enigmatic message in the hands of the viewer. Reel-Unreel is on view through February 9th 2013 at David Zwirner, 525 West 19th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
