Eric Fischl’s latest solo exhibition takes over both New York galleries of Mary Boone and features a selection of portraits spanning the past twenty years. In these large scale canvases, viewers appreciate Fischl’s mastery of perspective and complex formal arrangements. His sitters feel familiar and their gazes at times unsettling. Fischl understands the way to instantly entertain his viewers by calling upon generalized characters and settings with provocative themes. Portraits is on view through March 17th 2012 at Mary Boone Gallery, 541 West 24th Street and 745 Fifth Avenue, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
