Purple co-founder ELEIN FLEISS presents a collection of photographs alongside texts and images from her archives in her current exhibition “Disappearing”. The name and content of the exhibition are rooted in the recent loss of her lifelong friend and inspiration MICHEL BUTEL, the french journalist and novelist, exploring the meaning of the word disappearance and how it relates to death, new beginnings and change.
BUTEL deeply influenced and inspired FLEISS’ approach towards life in general but also her understanding of poetry and literature. FLEISS makes her free-moving memory of her old friend accessible to the viewer as she gives form to this very personal part of her life journey.
As part of the exhibition, FLEISS collaborated with Cosmic Wonder in a performance produced by founder and artist YUKINORI MAEDA and MIYAKONO YASUDA called “Autre Temps”, featuring a choreography by MINAMI OOBA during which pieces of old clothes were being reconfigured and presented as a collection of limited items.
“Disappearing” is on view until October 25th, 2018 at Center for Cosmic Wonder at 5-18-10 Minami-aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
