Out next year, this documentary “Piet Oudolf: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall” gives a rare intimate view of the influential Dutch garden designer’s process, from landscape blueprints to theories on beauty. “I think it’s the journey in your life to find out what real beauty is, of course, but also discover beauty in things that are at first sight not beautiful,” says Oudolf. His choice of using bold drifts of herbaceous perennials and grasses created organic environments thus designing “dream landscape” through combining plants naturalistically. His public works marked a turning point in his career. He rose to international acclaim thanks his skill of bringing home gardening to public spaces, such as the High Line in Manhattan, the Lurie Garden in Chicago’s Millennium Park and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. For his latest venture, Oudolf is designing the grounds of the new outpost of Hauser & Wirth gallery, a remodeled 18th-century farmhouse in Somerset that is set to open in July 2014.
