Artist Olafur Eliasson in conversation with Klaus Biesenbach about his Little sun project. Little Sun is high-quality solar-powered LED lamp developed by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen. In areas of the world without electricity, known as ‘off-grid’ areas, the Little Sun solar-powered lamp allows people to work, socialise, study, and cook at night without using expensive and toxic fuel-based lighting like kerosene lanterns. Launched in July 2012 at London’s Tate Modern, the Little Sun project has since distributed over 165,000 Little Sun lamps worldwide – and that number is quickly growing. Little Sun’s unique combination of beautiful design and exceptional engineering has made the lamp popular across the globe, and people are discovering just how useful the lamp is even in areas with electricity.
