Sixth Street Specials functions antithetically to a white cube exhibition. In doing away with a neutral setting designed for commercial purposes, there is a disruption to the flow of information; a move away from the hyperdata which defines our current age. Each of the artists – Nick Atkins, Joey Frank and David Kirshoff – are included in this show for having an outsider quality to their work, while remaining accessible in terms of concept and form. Sixth Street Specials, the venue of this exhibition, is the last remaining motorcycle repair shop in Manhattan. It has been on East Sixth Street in Alphabet City since 1987.
