David Zwirner’s ninth exhibition with artist Raymond Pettibon features the artist’s signature characters, salon style installation and agressive line. The vibrant exhibition hinges upon Pettibon’s mastery of combining fragmented text and imagery. Handwritten passages appear in both the images and directly on the walls of the gallery. Parts of the cursive script remind of Rene Ricard’s playful text based paintings while the imagery maintains Pettibon’s longstanding interest in sub cultures and Americana. To Wit is on view through October 26th 2013 at David Zwirner, 519 West 19th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
