The American fashion designer Ralph Lauren staged his wear-now Fall 2017 runway show in his private garage in Bedford, 40 miles north of Manhattan, among his rare vintage cars he has been collecting over the years and drives.
It was the first time the garage was opened for an event, although the collection was already shown at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, displaying iconic prestigious models from the 1930s to present day, such as several Ferraris from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’90s, a 1938 Bugatti Atlantic and the 1929 Bently Blower.
Ralph Lauren’s love for cars can be perceived throughout the show in the moto, racy, utilitarian silhouettes and details. The collection was greatly inspired by the modernity and the sense of timelessness of its cars.
For his first dual gender fashion show, the fashion designer decided to celebrate the duality between femininity and masculinity in a series of pure Ralph Lauren tuxedos for the evening: “To heighten the experience, men wearing looks from my Purple Label Collection will join the women on a runway lined with my cars in the pristine environment of my garage. This will create the ultimate expression of style and luxury for the woman and man of today,” says Ralph Lauren.
The collection plays with men’s patterns, scales and proportions – from fitted to oversized, to propose a new femininity, inspired by traditional men’s tailoring translated to couture sophistication.
Following last year’s strategy, Ralph Lauren fall collection is see-now-buy-now, as all the garments will be immediately available to purchase globally.
