Marlborough and Steinitz galleries along with artist Thierry W Despont conceived Le Cabinet de Curiosités as an off-site exhibition to merge the works of contemporary artists with antique furniture and objects. The artists Manolo Valdés, Claudio Bravo and Despont work with trompe l’oeil and found object assemblages to create fantastical paintings and sculpture which activate the 17th and 18th Century objects from the Steinitz collection. The multi-room experience offers a new perspective on the environment for art viewing and the context of objects. On view through January 31st 2012 at the New York Mercantile Exchange, 7 Harrison Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
