Jonas Mekas presents a powerful selection of editioned photographic prints at Lower East Side gallery James Fuentes. Images of out Darkness reveals the artist’s view of life from a camp for displaced persons during World War II. Mekas displays the perserverance of human spirit and the emotional tenor of the time through haunting light and shadow combined with deceptively simple compositions. Never satisfied with the limitations of one medium, Mekas also includes a brief text pinned to the wall alongside his images which brings added refinement and depth to the quiet exhibit. On view through October 28th 2012 at James Fuentes, 55 Delancy Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
