Composed of both new and earlier photographs spanning over a twenty-year period, this exhibition presents the work of Canadian artist, Jeff Wall, known for his large-scale, cinematographically dynamic documentary photographs. Walls calls his images ‘prose poems,’ after the writings of Charles Baudelaire, emphasising how each piece should be experienced rather than understood. A radically different approach to journalistic photography, each picture is presented without any of the facts –the viewer is left without knowing the date and time of when the picture was shot, nor the context in which it happened– thereby instilling a sense of mystery, the epitome of poetic imagery.
