Ivory Campbell shoots Hoi An over three days spent celebrating New Year’s in Vietnam

“These images were taken over three days spent in Hoi An, spanning New Year’s Eve into the first days of the year. The city is vibrant and alive, with street vendors on every corner selling an abundance of things you wouldn’t think to look for, from octopus tentacles and rare fresh fruit to flying bird toys and banh mi.

The river sits at the heart of the city, filling from day to night with lantern boats. After dark, it glows with hundreds of fluorescent colours, reflecting across the water. Our days were fuelled by Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, four cups at a time, and punctuated by fresh fruit bought in small plastic bags, dragon fruit, mango, eaten as we moved through the streets.

Hoi An is perpetually busy, filled with vendors calling out and tourists bartering, a rhythm that never seems to slow. Always busy and full of sound, Hoi An is a place with an undeniable soul, rich with life, colour, and a sense of everyday magic.”
