For Asterisms, Gabriel Orozco‘s Guggenheim exhibition commissioned by the Deutsche Bank, he gathered thousands of objects found on two sites: a beach in Baja California Sur, Mexico and a playing field near Pier 40 in New York. The sculptural carpets thus created are surrounded by large scale gridded photographs of each individual object. The dialogue between the eroded objects and their clean studio-photographed images throws the viewer into a constellation of colors and shapes while inviting to reflect on the tension between nature and culture. Asterisms is on view until January 13th at the Guggenheim Museum, 1071, 5th Avenue, NY 10128, New York. Photo and text Alexis Dahan
