American artist Doug Aitken‘s sixth solo show at Victoria Miro in London takes over two levels of the East End gallery. In addition to ascreening of his recent film Black Mirror featuring American actress Chloe Sevigny, Aikten exhibits powerful lightboxes alongside sculpture and installation. Especially fantastic is the work Sympathy for the Devil which features a cast microphone stand and a speaker playing “please allow me to introduce myself. I am a man of wealth andtaste” on repeat. With his post minimalist light boxes, Aitken appropriates the social resonance of signage as a way to investigate the link between image and text. On view thru 12th November 2011 at Victoria Miro Gallery, 6 Wharf Road, London.
