Artist Damian Ortega decodes the language of objects and manuevers between keen aesthetic choices and the harsh reality of the materials. For his current exhibition at Gladstone Gallery, Ortega offers viewers 25 steel sculptures which dangle from the gallery’s high ceiling. Individual spotlights cast lyrical shadows onto the floor of the space suggesting alternative ways of seeing. The result forms a kind alphabet which functions individually and as a whole. On view through October 26th 2013 at Gladstone Gallery, 530 West 21st Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
