Purple TV presents a studio visit with Joeun Kim Aatchim in Brooklyn by Johnny Le
In this studio visit, Purple follows Korean artist Joeun Kim Aatchim, as she works on her upcoming project, “사자굴 [Sajagul] — Then, out of the Den,” at Make Room Gallery, Los Angeles.
The inspiration for the writings and drawings for this project came during her mother’s surgery last winter, during which Aatchim felt the repercussions of long-distance correspondence, being torn apart from her family in Seoul and her life in New York. Faced with this reality, Aatchim centers her work around themes of memory, language, and the psychology of childhood, creating images that have an elevated translucence so as to emphasize the fleetingness of our memories.
“사자굴 [Sajagul] — Then, out of the Den,” is on view now until June 4 2022 at Make Room Gallery, 5119 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles
