[June 9 2013]
For his first solo exhibition with The Pace Gallery, artist Yoshitomo Nara creates an interesting dialogue between sculpture and painting using his deceptively naive forms. Nara’s easy lines and delicate color in the works on paper and paintings contrast the rough bronze sculptures placed throughout the gallery. Remnants of the artist’s hand on the sculptures add a sense of intimacy and craft to the work. Two works in the exhibition include text elements which compliment Nara’s narrative and suggest the innocent looking subjects have more depth beneath the surface. On view through June 29th 2013 at The Pace Gallery, 534 West 25th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
