Called the “Godfather of Japanese Eroticism,” Toshio Saeki’s artwork draws from the basement of a collective subconscious, depicting universal taboos through surreal narratives and dark humor. Through imagination and dreams, he splits open a universally erotic world where iconic characters subject themselves to grotesque behaviors staged within traditional Japanese environments.
Saeki’s inks and prints present scenes which blur the boundaries between eroticism, humor and horror. His dedication to clean, pure lines, and simplicity of form and shape form a stark contrast to the divisive social and cultural taboos addressed through his images.
