Takuro Kuwata’s arresting ceramics bring traditional forms of pottery into a contemporary context. Vivid colors and surprising textures remind of Sterling Ruby’s more abstract but smiliarily alluring cermaic works. For his first solo show in the United States, Kuwata uses the art of ceremony as a way to explore new modes of function in a way that resists nostalgia and looks toward the future. Flavor of Nature is on view through February 25th 2013 at Salon 94, 243 Bowery, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
