VPL and Vara Fine Arts present Second Skin, an exhibition and book co-curated by Victoria Bartlett and Renée Vara. Second Skin is a two-part conceptual project that surveys Bartlett’s fascination with muscular anatomy and human skin through the works of 15 artists including David Armstrong, Mark Borthwick, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Katerina Jebb, Joe Maloney, Jack Pierson, and Collier Schorr. Concepts of corporal dissection, examination and re-assemblage are explored in the works and the compilation of images which make up the book represent the collective consciousness about the contemporary body, something evidently seen in Bartlett’s VPL fashion label. The Second Skin book is available to buy now on vplnyc.com and the exhibition continues to show until 31st July at VPL, 5 Mercer Street, New York.
