On Tuesday The Odeon of Herodes Atticus built in 161 AD, on the site of the Acropolis in Athens, played host to Rufus Wainwright’s “PRIMA DONNA.” An operatic journey of various dark forces and a myriad of desperate opinions, swirling about the universal theme of a woman coming to terms with age, reality, and, referred to gently as “fireworks” in the final aria, of her own mortality. This final Aria, “Les Feux D’Artifice t’Appellent” (The Fireworks are Calling You) morphs images into a debut film, in collaboration with Italian filmmaker and artist Francesco Vezzoli and American artist Cindy Sherman, filmed in Paris at the Theatre des Variétés.
