Los Angeles based artist Paul McCarthy‘s recent interest in the German folk story Snow White takes on its latest shape in his new exhibition with the Hauser and Wirth. The Dwarves, The Forests includes large scale works in bronze and wood as well two model fantasy forests which will be recreated on a larger scale for future performances by the artist. Spread out over two gallery floors, the works pull from existing McCarthy drawings as the next step in his exploration of the story. The gouged eyes and phallus shapes of the dwarves feel more emotional than graphic or sexual as McCarthy intends to imply the effort of creation and irregularity that occurs over time. On view until 17th December 2011 at the Hauser and Wirth, 32 East 69th Street, New York.
