Martin Hornet draws upon childhood memories for his latest solo exhibition at Matthew Marks. The artist presents a group of six life sized figures based upon a photograph of his school teachers. Hornet works with the visual aesthetic of vintage photographs and translates it to his sculptures. The layers of paint on the figures are intended to recall an antiquted image rather than contemporary person captured in the moment. Elsewhere in the space, Hornet continues his interest in photography as a means for sculpture with a model dormitory based on a photo negative of the space. On view through October 26th 2013 at Matthew Marks, 523 West 24th Street, New York. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
