Through the medium of drawing Jorinde Voigt has devised a complex and highly developed system of articulating immaterial phenomena as visually engaging compositions. Suggesting the appearance of scientific diagrams or musical scores, these seemingly abstract arrangements encompass a very precise range of references. Niklas Luhmann’s Love as Passion: The Codification of Intimacy analyses the evolution of love in Western Europe from the 17th Century to present. Voigt transposes Luhmann’s essential concepts into visual images. “Codification of Intimacy” is on view until June 21st at David Nolan, New York. Photo Elise Gallant
