In the early 1980’s, the Sunset Tower apartement building, now derelict, would have been demolished if not for actor Wermer Klemperer (son of conductor Otto Klemperer) who refused to move out. Although it was considered a historical landmark, there were no laws to prevent its demolition. By the time he was evicted, laws to protect such architectural jewels had been enacted, Hollywood.
