Experimental musician Oneohtrix Point Never takes over Purple TV

To kick off our month of music on Purple TV, we have invited Brooklyn-based musician Oneohtrix Point Never, aka Daniel Lopatin, to curate this months TV Takeover. Lopatin is the creator of experimental music, transcending synth soundscapes into space with the occasional bits of drone and silence. He doesn’t conform to the minimalist music of today. Never compromising, his albums, R Plus Seven (2013) released on Warp and Replica (2011) released on his own label Software, each showcase Lopatin’s expanding artistic vision.

His visuals that accompany his ‘cyberdrone’ sounds are just as uncompromising, tapping visual artist and filmmaker Jon Rafman to create a video that presents the disturbing world of internet subcultures for the single Still (Betamale) and working with frequent contributor artist Nate Boyce to create digital universes to compliment his music on stage. In 2011 he published his own zine Cool Drool, with written and visual features from Jon Rafman, Cory Arcangel, Megazord, Laurel Halo and more. Last year saw him work with Brian Reitzell to create the score for Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring. And now fresh from opening the Nine Inch Nails North American tour, Lopatin will select a series of 7 videos for our August TV Takeover. Photo Timothy Saccenti
