Los Angeles based artist Jim Shaw’s latest solo exhibition at Metro Pictures includes a small selection of works in rememberence of his long time friend and collaborator Mike Kelley. The pair were founding members of the band Destroy All Monsters and shared a similar approach to upending the conventions of American and religious symbolism. Dating from the early 1970s, these works feel relevant and provocative and offer a glimpse into the origins of Shaw’s creative practice. Photo and text Juliana Balestin
