The French 27-year-old self-taught fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, who was born in the South of France near Marseille, will be the guest of honor at the OpenMyMed festival from May 2017. With only a high school diploma he created his first collection at 20-years-old and since 2012 has presented his collections during Paris Fashion Week, in which each show has been in someway a tribute to his beloved city of Marseille.
The OpenMyMed festival, launched by the Maison méditerranéenne des métiers de la mode (MMMM), since 2016 get aims promoting Marseille as a new fashion capital in the Mediterranean. For it’s second edition called “Marseille je t’aime,” the designer will stage exhibitions “Maison” and “Archives”, on show from May 12th 2017 to Jan 14th 2018, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Marseille. Here he will present cement house sculptures based on his signature round and square forms, as well as a photo exhibition and film made with “Bodies in Open Spaces” performance artist Willi Dorner and photographer David Luraschi. Finally, the event will culminate in the launch of a book bringing together photos of Marseille by the designer in collaboration with artists and friends.
