Bjarne Melgaard “The Casual Pleasure of Disappointment” opening party at Red Bull Arts, New York
During New York Fashion Week, Bjarne Melgaard launched The Casual Pleasure of Disappointment, where Red Bull Arts New York was transformed into a multilevel psycho-pathological department store.
Produced in collaboration with artist and fashion stylist Avena Gallagher, an army of genetically enhanced mannequins wore the eponymous unigender clothing line The Casual Pleasure of Disappointment, made by Melgaard with Creative Director Babak Radboy. The collection strongly protested and sent a message about self-destructive aspects of fashion and consumerism. To emphasis this, the artist also gave away, free of charge to the public, the indefensible quantity of designer fashion and high-end streetwear he has amassed over the years.
